Bay College Softball Team Opens Exhibition Season

The Bay College women's softball team opened the exhibition season over the weekend by playing six games on the road.

FRIDAY'S GAMES---BAY TAKES TWO FROM NORTHLAND
Bay got things going on Friday by sweeping a doubleheader from Northland College in Ashland, Wis. In the opener, Eden Oswald struck out 15 batters as the Norse won, 5-1. Korey Kaukola had four hits while Olivia Capodilupo and Richelle Vandeville both had three hits. In the second game, Bay won, 3-1, as Hannah Edington went the distance in the circle. Lexi Chaillier had two hits.

SATURDAY'S GAMES---NORSE TAKE TWO OF THREE
On Saturday, the Norse then traveled to Ironwood and played three games: two against Bryant & Stratton College of Milwaukee, and one against Gogebic Community College.

In the first matchup against the Bobcats, the Norse pulled out a 7-6 win. Kaitlyn Hardwick, Lexi Chaillier, and Beth Gannigan all drove in two runs. Eden Oswald threw all seven innings, striking out eleven batters. The Norse scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning after the Bobcats tallied four times in the top of the inning. Olivia Capodilupo contributed two hits.

The Norse then played regional opponent Gogebic, and a five-run third inning helped Bay post a 12-1 victory in a mercy-shortened five-inning win. The Samsons made eight errors on defense. The Norse had eight hits, with Letteriello having two of them. She also drove in two runs. Capodilupo and Oswald also had two RBI each.

In the second matchup with Bryant & Stratton, the Bobcats turned the tables for a one-run win. In that contest, the Norse trailed, 2-1, before scoring three runs in the top of the seventh to take the lead, 4-2. But the Bobcats scored three in the bottom of the seventh to earn the walk-off win. Hardwick, Chaillier, and Morgan Letteriello all had runs batted in for the Norse. Letteriello pitched the first four innings for the Norse, before Oswald came in to pitch and took the loss in the bottom of the seveth.

SUNDAY'S GAME---NORSE MERCY GOGEBIC
On Sunday, Bay faced Gogebic again before heading home. The result was the same: a 12-2 Norse victory in five innings. The Norse scored three runs in each of the first four innings. Taylor Hunter led the way with four runs batted in. Gannigan had three base hits and added two hits. Heather Bergstrom added two hits. Oswald pitched three innings, striking out nine batters. Edington finished up by tossing the final two innings.
