FOUR-PEAT: Westwood Girls Take D2 Tennis Title

KINGSFORD---The Westwood Patriots won their fourth straight MHSAA Division Two Upper Peninsula girls championship on Wednesday in Kingsford. The Patriots had 22 points, followed by West Iron County (15) and Iron Mountain (11). 

Kingsford took first place in six of the eight flights, including all four singles flights.

Tessa Leece won for the fourth consecutive U.P. Finals, winning at #2 singles over Iron Mountain’s Claire Mongrain 6-3, 6-2.

At #1 singles, Madelyn Koski cruised past Iron Mountain's Macy McCormick, 6-1, 6-0, in the finals.

Meanwhile, the Patriots' Jillian Koski won at #3 singles, 6-0, 6-4, over Iron Mountain's Arianna Morel.

And at #4 singles, Jenna Wealton defeated West Iron County’s Olivia Mazurek 6-1, 6-4.

West Iron County won two doubles championshuips.

At #1 doubles, Wykon junior Tori Bociek and senior Eden Golliher beat Westwood’s Katelyn Antilla and Karlie Patron 6-4, 6-3. It was their second straight U.P. title.

At #2 doubles, West Iron's Emily Nelson and Anna Malmquist topped Westwood's Ellie Miller and Meghan Johnson 6-1, 6-3.

Westwood won the remaining two doubles flights. 

At #3 doubles, Westwood's Avery Mariuzzo and Emily Nelson outlasted West Iron County sophomores Madison Berutti and Aurora Dahl in three sets, 6-0, 6-7 (3-7), 6-0.

At #4 doubles, Claire Gilles and sophomore Natalie Prophet topped West Iron's Alyssa Dominicci and Katarina Hemeleski, 6-0, 6-2.
