Braves Outlast Eskymos In Marathon 5-Set Match
 GLADSTONE---It was a typical Escanaba vs Gladstone sporting event. It doesn't mean what sport is being played. Boys? Girls? It doesn't matter. It is almost always intense, and Thursday night in Gladstone, the volleyball teams from both sides of the Escanaba River left it all on the court in a five-set marathon match.

This one was a Great Northern Conference match-up, and it went back-and-forth all night long. Gladstone won the first game, 25-19. But the Eskymos came back to tie it with a 25-23 win in game #2. Escanaba appeared to take control of the match by winning the third game, 25-18. But the Braves tied things up with a tense 25-21 win in Game #4. The fifth and final game went overtime, and the Braves pulled it out, 18-16. It was just the second win of the season for Gladstone (the other was over Norway last week). Escanaba's record fell to 4-11-1. Gladstone is 2-8-1. Escanaba competes in the Marquette Articatz Tournament on Saturday, while Gladstone travels to Clintonville, Wis., for a tournament, also on Saturday. |
