Braves Wrestlers Hansen, Brazeau Third In Detroit
DETROIT---Gladstone High School wrestlers Cole Hansen and Michael Brazeau finished strong on Saturday at the MHSAA Individual Wrestling state finals at Detroit's Ford Field. They both ran the table in their respective weight classes to finish third overall. Hansen, a senior at 152 pounds, on his opening match on Friday before losing a tough 3-1 decision to Dominick Lomazzo fromusual powerhouse, Dundee. From there, Hansen went undefeated to reach the third spot on the podium. He pinned Nathan Nichols of Armada in 2:06, then beay Tony Breuker of Fremont on a 9-4 decision, then picked up an excoiting "sudden victory" win over Ty Tanner of Birch Run High School in the consolation semifinals. Hansen won the third place game on a medical forfeit by Max Halstead of Grayling High School. Brazeau, a 103-pound sophomore, lost his first match on Friday when he was pinned by Noah Harris from Richmond High School in 4:40. From there, Brzaeau won every match, starting with two Fridaynight matches on a 5-0 decision over Mason Spiess of Ovid-elsie, and a pin over Tyler Ueberroth of Saginaw Swan Valley. That brought Brazeau into Saturday's action, where he pinned Joe Armstrong of Grayling in 1:56, thenbeat Cody Richards of Monroe Jefferson on a tight 8-7 decision. In the third place match, Brazeau beat Jordan Simpson of Dowagiac, 5-2. Gladstone's other wrestlers, 112-pounder Lane Matzke and 119-pounder Hunter Solis each lost both of their matches on Friday. |
