Flivvers, Miners Tie For Tennis Title; Eskymos 3rd

MARQUETTE---The high school tennis season came to an end on Wednesday with a hotly-contested U.P. Finals meet at the Marquette High School tennis courts.

Kingsford and Negaunee tied for the MHSAA Division One team championship with 14 points while Escanaba took third place with 11. Marquette finished fourth with nine points, Gladstone was fifth (three points), and Menominee finished sixth with one point.

Negaunee picked up U.P. championships at #2 and #3 singles, as well as at #3 doubles. Kingsford won championships at #4 singles, and took second place in the other three singles flights. The Flivvers also won the #4 doubles championship.

The Miners' Allison Carlson won the U.P. title at #2 singles, and her teammate, Kayla Hakala, took top honors at #3 singles. Kingsford's Santina Bianco won at #4 singles.

ESKYMOS TOP FINISHERS----Escanaba's Codi Jenshak won a U.P. championship at #1 singles, topping Kingsford's Sam Fleming, 6-1, 6-2.

At #1 doubles, the Eskymos' Braedyn Bosilovatz and Cathryn Wood defeated Kingsford's Anna Shanks and Katie Lamy in the final, 6-3, 6-3, winning a U.P. title.

And at #4 doubles, Escanaba's Shelby Gregoire and Olivia Berquist defeated Negaunee's Sarah Paquette and Kassy Harsila, 6-3, 6-0, for a championship.

Escanaba's #2 doubles team of Jalyn Dagenais and Zoe Berquist was a semifinalist, as was Johanna Snowden at #2 singles.

BRAVES TOP FINISHERS----Gladstone did not have a U.P. champion, but the Braves did advance to the semifinals in four flights.

Lauren Parrett placed at #3 singles, and Cassandra LaMarche placed at #4 singles.

Bridget Becker and Nicole Trudeau were semifialists at #1 doubles, and Anna Caramello and Paige Schwartz were semifinalists at #3 doubles.
