Eskymo Boys Win Another Cross-Country Meet
GLADSTONE---The Escanaba High School boys cross-country team won the Gladstone Invitational on Thursday.

The Eskymos had 34 points while Kingsford was second, and Marquette was third.

Kingsford's Dan Kulas (16:55) won the race by four seconds over Escanaba's Andy Stenberg (16:59). Marquette's Lance Rambo was third overall (17:07).

Stenberg's Esky teammates, Eric Cousineau (17:15) and Jordan Ogren (17:33), also ran well. Cousineau placed fourth overall and Ogren was sixth. And Brad Derouin was tenth in 17:59 and Gabe Ostrenga took 12th spot in 18:06.

That depth led to the Eskymo team victory.

Gladstone finished in seventh place out of 13 teams. Kyle Kleiman was the Braves' top runner, finishing in 28th place overall (19:21). Andrew Olesak placed 32nd (19:43) and Chris Sedenquist was 33rd overall (19:44).

In the girls meet, Marquette won the race with 31 points while Escanaba was second with 57 points. Escanaba finished tied with Menominee, but won on a tie-breaker.

Escanaba's Aimee Geise finished fourth overall (20:36), and Gladstone's Sadie Strasser placed seventh (21:24). Marquette freshman Lindsey Rudden won the race in 18:57.

Menominee's Kameron Burmeister was second at 20:08, and Marquette's Calla Martysz was third overall at 20:19. The Gladstone Braves girls were fourth overall as a team.

Escanaba's Joanie Stacey finished tenth overall (21:30) and teammate Callie Heller (21:33) took 11th place. Gladstone's Josie Gardner finished in 16th place individually.

Manistique did not have enough girls to have a team score, but Holly Blowers finished fifth overall in 21 minutes flat.
