Redmen Soccer Shuts Down Kingsford Again, 5-0

MARQUETTE---The Kingsford Flivvers soccer team traveled to Marquette Thursday night for the third match-up of the year between the two teams.

Marquette won the first two games by identical 6-0 scores. And it was much the same this time as Marquette (5-01-) cruised to a 5-0 win. Redmen junior Nick Lindberg scored twice and two Marquette goalies split time in net to earn the shutout.

“Even with a 5-0 win, we have things to improve on," Marquette Coach Dan Salmon said. "We had a lot of chances to put the ball in the net and came up short.”

Senior Connor Johnson got the scoring started off of an Ezra Pickard (sophomore) pass. Junior defenseman Cam Larson put the Redmen up 2-0 off a corner kick from fellow junior John Weber.

Lindberg notched back to back goals just minutes apart going up 4-0.

The first was assisted by junior Michael Poggi and the second one by Weber. Freshman Ethan Sandstrom put the fifth goal of the first half in off an assist by Johnson.

Senior Liam Jeevar faced one shot in the net in the first half while junior Harrison Anthos faced three shots in the second half including stopping a breakaway shot.

Marquette travels to Kingsford on Thursday the 24th for the final game in the series.
