Bay Bats Explode Again In Softball Win Over DCTC
ESCANABA---The Bay College Norse softball team improved to 5-1 in NJCAA Region 13 seeding matchups on Thursday by splitting a doubleheader with Dakota County Technical College (Minn.), The Blue Knights won the first game, 5-3, before the Norse rolled in the nightcap, 12-2.
This follows Bay's doubleheader sweep of Gogebic Community College on Wednesday, 14-8 and 30-0. On Thursday, DCTC scored three runs in the first inning and held off a late Norse charge. Bay got an RBI single from Lexi Chaillier in the bottom of the seventh inning to bring the tying run to the plate. But Taelor Zeise popped up and Hailey Boucher grounded out to end the game. Karlie Patron took the loss in the circle. She allowed eight hits and three earned runs (five total) in a complete-game effort. Courtney Heagle got the win for DCTC pitching all seven innings and holding Bay to five hits. Chaillier had two of them. But in the nightcap, the Norse bats exploded for six home runs among their eleven base hirs. In the second game, Bay broke a scoreless tie with five runs in the third inning and four more in the fourth. Zeise had two of the home runs, with four runs batted in. Chaillier also went deep twice and had three RBI. Sarah Wynn had a homer, single, and three RBI. Korey Kaukola had a homer as well. The Norse welcomed Hannah Edington back in the circle after missing most of the season because of a broken wrist. She pitched all five innings, scattering seven base hits. She also had a win against Gogebic on Wednesday. In Wedneeday's opener, the GCC Samsons took 5-1 lead on three run homer by Maddie Johns and 2-run double by Kelsie Wiezorek. Bay came back with six runs in the fourth inning and five runs in the sixth. Wynn had a pair of two-run homers. Chaillier had four hits (including a homer and a double) and three RBI. Patron also hit a home run for Bay. In Wednesday's nightcap, the Norse scored 13 runs in the first inning. Kristin Goodacre was 5 for 6 with three RBI. Jenna Tardiff was 4 for 5 with three RBI (single, double and triple). Zeise and Kaukola both had three hits. The Norse (15-21) play DCTC two more times on Friday in Wells, needing one more win to clinch home field advantage for the subregional tournament. Game time is 12:00 noon. |
