Gladstone's Vuksan To NMU; Esky's Falish To Tech

ESCANABA----Two Delta County high school football players have signed National Letters of Intent to play college football next fall.

Escanaba's David Falish committed to Michigan Tech University as a wide receiver, and Gladstone's Jared Vuksan will go to Northern Michigan University as a defensive end.

Both boys made it official on Wednesday on national football "Signing Day".

Jared Vuksan on the Recruiting Process
In all, Northern Michigan signed 26 players on Wednesday, including Vuksan. Vuksan was a running back and a defensive tackle for the Braves, but he broke a bone in his leg near his ankle midway through the 2012 high school season. But NMU Coach Chris Ostrowsky overlooked that, noting that Vuksan's 6-foot-1, 220-pound frame will fit in nicely on his team's revamped defense.

Vuksan says that he chose Northern because the school is close to home and has a good criminal justice program (click the audio link to listen to his comments).

Sault Ste. Marie's Kyle Root also committed to Northern on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Falish will be headed to Tech, where he will eventaully face Vuksan and his best friend Austin Young, who will be a sophomore at NMU next season.

David Falish gets a long "pick-six" on defense.
Falish was Escanaba's quarterback and defensive back in 2013, but Tech recruited him as a wide receiver due to his speed.

The 5-11, 170-pound Falish is also valuable to MTU Coach Tom Kearly because of his impeccable Grade Point Average. Falish, a member of the National Honor Society, plans to major in Environmental Engineering at Tech.

Falish was one of nine Upper Peninsula boys to commit to MTU on Wednesday.
