Shorthanded Esky Tennis Team Loses In Iron River

IRON RIVER---The Escanaba High School tennis team was still shorthanded on Friday as the boys played a make-up match against the West Iron County Wykons. The #1 doubles team of Jake Eastin and Dave Fix got a win, but the Wykons won, 7-1.

"We were still missing four guys out of our lineup today. That makes things extra tough when you play good teams," Eskymo Coach Jim Hansen said. "The guys did a great job and gave tremendous effort. We had singles players playing doubles and doubles players moved up to different flights."

The Eskymos will compete in the Kingsford Invitational on Saturday.

ESCANABA---The Escanaba High School tennis team was a bit shorthanded on Thursday, and lost to the Negaunee Miners, 6-2, at the Eskymo tennis courts.

The #1 doubles team of Jake Eastin and Dave Fix managed to get a win, as did Steve Prica at #4 singles. But the Miners got the rest of the glory on Thursday.

"We are missing 4 guys out of our usual lineup," Escanaba Coach Jim Hansen said. "I thought all the guys that played today played hard. We had some hard fought matches. We had several comebacks that fell short."

Escanaba was coming off a humbling loss to first-place Kingsford on Tuesday.

"We made some improvements from Tuesday and we have to keep going in the right direction," Hansen said. "Fix and Eastin did a good job of sticking to their game plan. Steve Prica came through at singles considering he's been playing doubles all year."
