Norway Wins Tournament Under Wintry Conditions

NORWAY---It snowed at Marion Park on Saturday, but the Norway Knights wanted to play some baseball. And so after a delay, the Norway Lofholm's Building Center/Peterson Electric Baseball Invitational went on as scheduled.

The Knights won the championship, while Marquette finished in third place.

"Our pitching was solid all day and our offense is taking baby steps in the right direction," Norway Coach Tony Adams said.

The day started with the Negaunee Miners beating the Marquette Redmen, 9-0, as Tony Zampese pitched a three-hit shutout. Then in the second game, the Knights blanked the Stephenson Eagles, 7-0. In the third place game, Marquette topped Stephenson, 13-3.

In the championship game, the Knights topped the Miners, 5-2. Austin Grayvold hit a three-run homer and Dan Vivio hit a solo shot for the Knights.

The Most Valuable Pitcher was Norway's Mike Faull.

"Mike Faull stepped up big for us today," Adams said. "He is a young kid who wanted the ball and pitched very well."

And Norway's John Grayvold, Jr., was named the tournament's Most Valuable Hitter. Grayvold, Jr., was three-for-five at the plate, with a single, double and triple.
