ROUGH NIGHT: Six Errors Sink Cubs In Gladstone
GLADSTONE---The Escanaba Cubs made six errors, leading to 14 unearned runs and a 17-3 American Legion Baseball loss to the Gladstone Indians Tuesday in Gladstone. The game was called in the fifth inning by the mercy rule. But the Indians took the lead in the bottom of the inning when Braeden Lamberg was safe on an error and Tyson Seymour barely missed a home run to right field, settling for a double instead. Caden Alworden put down a suicide bunt to bring Lamberg home, and when no one covered first, Seymour hustled home from second base. In the second inning, everything fell apart for Escanaba as Gladstone sent 14 batters to the plate and scored ten runs. The Cubs had three errors that inning, with two of them coming at second base. Seymour had a squeeze bunt for a run batted in, and Ben Kelly and Cooper Cavadeas had back-to-back two-run singles. Escanaba closed two within 12-3 in the top of the third when Jake Anderson doubled, Grant LaMarche was safe on an error, and LaFave had another RBI base hit. Gladstone added four more runs in the third inning and one more in the fourth, as Cavadeas had RBI hits in both innings. Anderson and Braeden Olsen threw in relief. Seymour started for Gladstone, throwing three innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits. Ian Schwalbach tossed the final two innings, allowing a hit and a walk. Gladstone improved to 9-4 on the season. Escanaba fell to 1-10. Escanaba won the Junior game over Gladstone, 6-2. The Cubs and Indians both travel to Sault Ste. Marie for a tournament this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
