COLUMBUS, Ohio -
The NMU women's golf team traveled down to Columbus, Ohio to start their fall season at the ODU Champions of Women's Golf. The 'Cats sit 11th of 15 teams after round one, and Maggie Pietila recorded the program's second ever hole in one with her sister on the course and family in attendance .

Pietila delivered a golf shot that will be remembered for years to come. On hole two, Maggie hit a hole-in-one; a feat that hasn't been accomplished since September 16th, 2018, the exact day six years ago today, when Haley Hewer last made this remarkable shot. Pietila finished her round with a score of 84 (+14), recording a birdie on the par-4 13th to go with her ace and seven pars, finishing third on the team and 48th individually.

"It was an incredible feeling getting my first ever hole in one," says Maggie. "I feel so fortunate that my sister, who was playing in her first college tournament, along with my parents were watching and got to witness it!"

Despite the incredible performance from Maggie, it was her freshman sister Abbie Pietila who led the way for the team with her round of 79 (+9) in her first ever collegiate event. Pietila hit a key birdie on the 6th hole and showed a steady display of consistency with 8 pars throughout the 18 holes.

Fellow freshman Maddy Martens carded a score of 82 (+12) to finish second on the team and 37th individually, highlighted by 10 pars and a birdie on the 17th hole that shaped her final score.

Hailey Bolander shoots an 85 (+15), completing the Cats' scoring lineup and placing T55 individually, followed by Payton Dube 93 (+23) in T82 and Payton Donnelly in T88 with a score of 95 (+25).

"It was a tough day overall, but very promising to see our freshmen lead the way," says newly-named head coach Ben Johnson. "Looking forward for this group to improve tomorrow!"
