IRON MOUNTAIN--
-The Iron Mountain High School football team faced its toughest test of the season Thursday night, and the Mountaineers passed the test with flying colors. Iron Mountain raced to a 21-0 lead over the Negaunee Miners and cruised to a 35-14 win in the season finale at Mountaineer Stadium.

Alex Jayne rushed for 144 yards and two touchdowns, and quarterback Ian Martilla threw three touchdown passes as the Mountaineers finished their regular season with a perfect 9-0 record. Negaunee finished its season with a 6-3 record.

The Mountaineers struck early with two long touchdown passes from Martilla. One of them, for 49 yards, went to Jayne, and the other, good for 42 yards, was hauled in by Aiden Ellis. A third Martilla touchdown pass, 12 yards to Oskar Kangas, made it 21-0.

Negaunee got on the board in the second quarter on a 24-yard touchdown run by Bode Bonovitz. Bonovitz led the Miners with 107 yards on a dozen caries.

But right before halftime, Jayne plunged in from four yards, giving IM a 28-7 lead.

Bonovitz scored his second touchdown in the second half to bring the Miners to within 28-14, but Jayne countered that with a short touchdown of his own, making it 35-14.

The final touchdown of the game was a Ty Jacobsen-to-Brady Mager six-yard connection, making it a 35-21 final score.

Both teams now wait for Selection Sunday to find out where they will open the state playoffs, and against who.
