Wildcats Shut Out By Lake State In Series Opener
This story was written by NMU Sports Information MARQUETTE---The Northern Michigan University hockey team dropped game one of the Cappo Cup series, 5-0 to Lake Superior State, Friday night in Marquette. LSSU went 4/6 on the power play while NMU went 0/4 with its man-advantage opportunities. Five different Lakers scored goals, including power-play goals from Levandowski, Schweitzer, Tritt, and Druskinis. Ryan Ouellette started the game, allowing two goals from eight on target. Ethan Barwick made his second appearance of the season, coming in relief to start the second period, making nine saves in 40 minutes of play. Grayden Slipec paced all skaters in shots (10) and shots on goal (6), followed by Matthew Romer with six and four on target. Billy Renfrew (8/13, 61.5%) and Jesse Tucker (8/14, 57.1%) led the 'Cats in the face-off category. NMU outshot LSSU 35-20, but Rorke Applebee made every save, recording his second shutout of the season. The Wildcats held an edge in the faceoff dot, 26-23, and recorded 17 blocks to the Lakers four. |
