The Norse led nearly from wire-to-wire and improved their season record to 5-5, after taking two close losses earlier in the trip.
“I think what it shows us is that we have the ability to really score well, defend well, and to really put teams away,” Norse Coach James Fassett said. “For us seeing that every game doesn't have to be a grind. We always question how we're going to come out, third game of a road trip, but we came out with some energy and we made some shots early. That helped give us energy.”
The Norse made nine three-point baskets and badly outbrebounded the Scots, 60-33. And of those 60 rebounds, 25 were on the offensive end.
Bay started pulling away on the scoreboard late in the first quarter when Anna Axtell and Brooklyn Phllips both drained triples, giving the Norse an 18-10 lead. Then after a basket by MCC's Zoie Lewis, Kennedy Spoule came down and sank a three-pointer of her own, making it 21-12 after one quarter.
The Norse essentially put the game away in the second quarter, with Sproule making two more triples and Lauren Zawada getting a couple baskets in the lane, making it a 39-22 cushion at the half.
Bay kept building its lead in the third quarter, as Axtell hit another triple to make it 54-29, Zawarda scored on a lay-up, and her fellow Bark River-Harris Bronco McKenzie Hoffmeyer also scored, growing the lead to 61-35 heading to the fourth quarter.
Sproule led all scorers with 29 points, 15 of them coming on five three-pointers.
“Our offensive spacing was pretty good today, and with the way they were guarding us, Kennedy was able to get inside, and score some baskets inside,” Fassett said. “That helped her outside game as well. I think she gained some confidence. She had some early post moves that worked, and a couple of drives, and then things started opening up for her. She kind of was feeling it today.”
Zawada had a double-double of 13 points and eleven rebounds, while Phillips just missed one with nine points and eleven boards.
Bay College improved to 5-5 on the season, with seven of those games on the road. Now, they will finally play a couple of home games this weekend, as they face Glen Oaks Community College Friday night at 6:00, and Milwaukee Area Technical College Saturday afternoon at 2:00. Both games will be broadcast live on Maverick 106.3 FM. |
