Wildcat Women Hold Serve At Home With Victory

The Northern Michigan women's basketball team thoroughly handled business on Saturday afternoon, routing the Davenport Panthers 80-41. 

The Wildcats never trailed in the contest, leading by as many as 40. After shooting 1-17 from three earlier in the season against the Panthers,

NMU bounced back with a 10-25 (40.0%) clip from three. Overall, the 'Cats shot 31-66 (47.0%). All 12 Wildcats scored, led by Jacy Weisbrod who scored all 15 of her points in the first half and 13 of them coming in the second quarter. Sarah Newcomer chipped in a dozen while knocking down four threes. Ava Bates also added seven points and her first career three in just four minutes of work. 
 

The second frame was the best for NMU, as they outscored the Panthers 22-7. The Wildcats managed three double-digit runs in the game, with a 12-0 spurt in both the second and third quarters.

The Panthers struggled shooting, going just 12-49 (24.5%) and 1-14 (7.1%) from three, both season-lows allowed by the Wildcat defense. 

Northern also had its best game of the season on the glass, pulling down 49 rebounds to DU's 24, a monstrous +25 advantage. Ten 'Cats pulled down at least three rebounds with Alyssa NimzMackenzie HolzwartAlyssa Hill, and Abi Fraaza all leading the way with six apiece. Four Wildcats added three assists while Kayla Tierney notched five steals on the defensive end. 

NMU forced 16 turnovers in total and scored 20 points off of them. The Green and Gold also doubled up the Panthers 32-16 in points in the paint and 46-7 in points from the bench. 

The win boosted the NMU record to 14-6 and 8-4 in the GLIAC while the Panthers fell to 4-16 and 2-10 in league play.
