In the two sides' first meeting in program history, the Wildcats (6-3, 1-0 GLIAC) started the game strong, going on a five-goal scoring streak in the first five minutes to set the momentum for the rest of the match. The 'Cats scored 12 goals in the first 30 minutes of play to carry a 12-1 lead into halftime before shutting out the Cardinals (0-6, 0-2 GLIAC) the rest of the way. NMU's offense was led by Hannah Jabas, who matched her career-high of six goals in one game. Sophie Langsdale fired four goals into the back of the net against SVSU, while Taylor Priestley and Abby Sisson each added three goals each to the scoreboard. Three other 'Cats added their own goals to the game, including Josie Lakosky (2), Avery Lorinser (1), and Camryn Mayer (1). Both goalkeepers, Lauren Esposito and Zoe Montgomery, made saves during the match. The 'Cats matched their season-high single-game goal total (20; Lewis (3/15/25); Saginaw Valley (3/23/25)), and set a season-high 38 ground balls, led by nine from Sisson, who posted both a season and career-high, and the most from someone in an NMU uniform since Hannah Melander against Concordia-St. Paul (4/16/23). NMU is now set to head back home and face Davenport and Grand Valley in the Superior Dome. Those games are Friday, March 28 at 5 p.m. and Sunday, March 30, at noon. With a few missed shots after NMU won the first draw possession, Jabas took it inside the eight meter to score the game's first goal. Keeping it hot, the 'Cats went on a five-goal scoring streak, scoring a goal almost every minute of the first five. Jabas added three goals to the scoreboard, while Sophie Langsdale added two, and Taylor Priestley also found the back of the net in the first quarter to put Northern up 6-0. A slow start and a few missed shots at the beginning of the second quarter from Northern allowed the Cardinals to score a goal in the 12th minute. But the 'Cats stayed in the game and Josie Lakosky found Langsdale inside the eight-meter to score her second goal of the match. Another quick play for the Wildcats came from an over-the-goal pass from Avery Lorinser to Lakosky to put Northern up by eight. NMU scored four more goals, including those from Lorinser herself, Lakosky, Priestley, and Abby Sisson to end the second quarter 12-1 Northern. Sisson came in with the heat during the third quarter, getting the rebound of a missed shot from Lorinser to add another to the scoreboard. Camryn Mayer scored her first goal of the match, and more goals came from Jabas and Priestley, keeping the 'Cats in a 15-point lead. Jabas added two more goals, Langsdale fired another one into the back of the net, and Sisson scored her third of the game in the fourth quarter. The inaugural match between the two sides ended in a 20-1 triumph for the 'Cats, earning their sixth win of the 2025 season. |
