The Keweenaw Storm Under-19 girls hockey team lost Saturday in the quarterfinals of the USA Hockey National Tournament in Irving, Texas.
The girls fell to the Alaskan state champions, 1-0, to drop out of the running for a national championship. The Storm lost despite outshooting Alaska, 29-11.
Earlier in the tournament, the Storm lost to the host Alliance Bulldogs, 3-1, on Wednesday, then bounced back to shut out Princeton, N.J., 2-0 on Thursday.
Then on Friday, the U.P. girls routed Team Wyoming, 11-1, to advance to the Final Eight of this 12-team tournament. Jessica Schlaff and Alexis Pykkonen both had three goals and two assists; and Bailey Raffaelli had a goal and five helpers for the Storm.
