Racing Set Friday Night At U.P. State Fairgrounds

ESCANABA---EMP is sponsoring racing on Friday, August 7 at the U.P. State Fairgrounds. UPIR switched to Friday this week to allow organizers of Armageddon on Wheels to host their event on Saturday. Go to www.armageddonwheels.com for details.

Only six points separate the top three drivers in the Sportsmen Micro-Sprint class. Jesse Liss is in first place, Gabriel Zellner (New Franken, WI.) follows in second place, with Logan Getzloff in third. Greg Bruce and Jonathan Pepin are tied for first place in the Street Stock division. Only five points behind is Ron Borchert in third.

The points in the Modified division are not quite so close with Lonnie Dalgord holding onto first place. Fran Berube is in second place. Austin Cayer is a close six points behind in third place. In the 600 Micro-Sprint division, points leader Matt Peterson is twelve points ahead of Christian Groleau in second place. Jeff Ives follows in third place.

The Bink's Coca-Cola Sport Four division boasts the highest car count. Tyler Corwin is in first place. Randy DeGrave is ten points out in second. Hattie Bourdeau rounds out the top three. The Riverside Auto Junior Micro-Sprints always put on a great show. Avry Corrigan is in first place. Second on down are; rookie Elliot Corrigan, Joey Stankowicz, Haden Frazer, rookie Tristan Kostreva (Crivitz, WI.) and rookie Brett Labre.

The grandstand will open at 5:00 PM EST with family friendly prices of $5 admission (10 and under free). Concessions are reasonably priced. Adult beverages are available with proper ID. Racing begins at 7:00 PM EST.

Don't miss the action this week as there will be no racing for two weeks as preparations will be underway for the opening of the Upper Peninsula State Fair on August 17. UPIR races will resume on August 22 during the fair.
