Two Northern Michigan University National Training Site weightlifters capped off a successful semester over the weekend competing at the American Open Finals, earning seventh- and eleventh-place finishes. The pair also earned third- and seventh-place finishes at the Junior Pan Am Championships on November 30.
Taking place this weekend was the American Open Finals. Initially scheduled to be held in-person in Atlanta, the competition transitioned to an online format, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Lander Wells placed seventh in the 89 kg weight class. Wells lifted 132 kg in the snatch and 158 kg in the clean and jerk.
Also lifting was Ryland Shriver in the 102 kg weight class. Shriver finished in 11th place with a 130 kg lift in the snatch and a 165 kg lift in the clean and jerk.
The Junior Pan American Championships took place November 30. Originally scheduled to be held in Manizales, Colombia, organizers moved the event online, due to the pandemic.
Shriver earned bronze in the 102 kg weight class, snatching 130 kg, clean and jerking 170 kg for a 300 kg total.
Wells placed fourth in the snatch with a lift of 129 kg lift and eighth in the clean and jerk with a 155 kg lift. His total of 284 kg put him in seventh overall in his bodyweight category.
