Hermansville Gold Medal Classic Begins 84th Year

HERMANSVILLE---The Frank Rodman Community Gym in the Menominee County town of Hermansville is alive again with the sounds of sneakers on the floor, cheering crowds, and basketballs going through the hoop.

The Gold Medal Basketball Tournament is under way, with some 68 teams competing.

This is the 84th year for the event, which makes it the longest-running independent basketball tournament in the country. It has only been interrupted by World War II, and by the coronavirus pandemic of 2020.

The biggest day of activity will be this Saturday, when 14 consecutive games are scheduled from early in the morning until late in the evening. The format sees games played with a running clock, and they typically last for around an hour, including warm-up times and breaks.

For the first time, Eagle 107.3 FM will broadcast a game on the radio this Thursday night, with the broadcast starting at 5:30 CT/6:30 ET with Jerry Root broadcasting.
