MERCY! Gladstone Major Girls Open State Tourney With Easy Win

The Gladstone Major Little League All-Stars (age 10-12) opened state tournament play on Thursday with an easy 19-0 win over the District 16 champions from Tecumseh.

Gladstone scored 13 runs in the first inning before Tecumseh could even come to the plate, and it was cruise control the rest of the way until the game was callled by the mercy rule after four innings.

Gladstone pounded out 21 base hits, and took advantage of six Tecusmeh errors. Gladstone used three pitchers: Reese Lovell, Reagan Carter, and Kamryn Ayotte, and the trio combined to throw a no-hitter. Tecumseh managed only three baserunners, all of them on walks.

Offensively, Carter had a triple and an inside-the-park home run, driving in two runs. Lovell also smoked a triple, and came all the way around on a double that was missplayed in the outfield. Joslynn Meyette had three hits and scored three times, and Ayotte also contributed three base hits. In fact, all eleven Gladstone batters had at least one base hit.

Gladstone will now face Constantine in the second pool play game Friday aftermoon at 2:00. It will be broadcast live on FM-93.5, AM-600, and on www.rrnsports.com,
