GREAT RUN ENDS: Gladstone Major Girls Lose In State Semifinals

SCHOOLCRAFT, Mich,---It was the end of the line Monday night for the Gladstone Major Little League All-Star team (age 10-12) in the state semifinals against Hudsonville.

Gladstone jumped off to a 2-0 lead on a Kamryn Ayotte base hit and error in the first inning, and it was a 3-3 game in the fourth inning after a Reagan Carter RBI double.

But Gladstone made far too many mistakes. Eight walks, multiple passed balls and wild pitches, and five errors. and lost, 13-3 in five innings.

Reese Lovell struggled with the strike zone right from the beginning, and she eventually left the circle in the fourth inning. Ayotte took over, and the Hudsonville girls were able to pull away with a big fifth inning.

Lucy Baker, who beat the Gladstone girls two summers ago, was the winning pitcher again this time, allowing just three base hits.

It's the third straight summer that these girls had their All-Star season end in the state final four. Hudsonville later won the state championship, 5-2, over Grosse Pointe.
