MARQUETTE, Mich. - Northern Michigan University football head coach Shane Richardson has announced an open tryout for the 2025 NMU football team. The tryout will take place on Wednesday, August 27th at 6 p.m. at the Superior Dome. To participate in the tryout, students must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours for the fall semester at NMU and maintain good academic standing. Before you can physically participate, you must submit the following documentation to Northern Michigan University:
- Documentation of a Physical Exam: Conducted by a licensed MD, DO, PA, or NP within the last six months prior to the start of your competitive season.
- Completed and Signed "Pre-Participation Evaluation" Form.
- Proof of Sickle Cell Testing: All Prospective student-athletes must provide documentation of a sickle cell test from certified laboratories to ensure accurate identification of the trait. Proper sample handling and result verification are essential for maintaining testing integrity and assessing health risks during intense physical activity.
- Signed "Consent to Treat Form."
- Signed "Assumption of Risk Form."

All required documentation must be submitted to Northern Michigan University at least ONE WEEK PRIOR to the tryout date. Participants should bring their own cleats and workout gear.
