The Michigan Tech University Huskies men's basketball team won both of its games this weekend at the Florida Tech Christmas Classic, preserving its Number Nine national ranking heading into the holiday break. Tech is now 11-1 on the season to go along with that national Top Ten ranking.

SATURDAY GAME RECAP
MELBOURNE, Fla. – The No. 9 nationally-ranked Michigan Tech men's basketball wrapped non-conference play with a bang, downing Lynn 105-67 to conclude the Florida Tech Christmas Classic on Saturday evening.
The Huskies saw two school records fall in a remarkable shooting night as All-American Marcus Tomashek recorded 11 3-pointers, breaking the previous record of 10 by Ben Stelzer and Kyle Monroe as the team finished 23-43 from 3-point land, breaking the school record for most in a game (20).
The Huskies broke the record for most 3-pointers attempted in a game (39).
Tomashek netted a season-high 39 points, on a very efficient 14-21 from the field and 11-17 from 3-point land while adding four assists. Ty Fernholz had his best game as a Husky, also on pace for the single-game 3-pointer record, finishing with a career-high 26 points on 9-17 from the field and 8-15 from deep. The duo also earned 22 points from Gabe Smith and Grant Warren who finished with 11 points, respectively. Smith added a team-high 11 boards and six assists as Warren shot 5-7 from the field.
The Huskies finish the calendar year and non-conference slate on a nine-game win streak for an 11-1 standing overall and 2-0 league record. Lynn drops to 8-4 overall and 3-2 in the SSC.
"We got hot tonight and it was fun to watch," said Tech head coach Josh Buettner. "But I was really happy with our assist compared to turnovers and how we limited their 2nd chance opportunities. It was a good trip for us heading into break."
'The Huskies shot lights out and had their best shooting half of the season in the final contest of 2025 as Marcus Tomashek began with three treys to jump out to a 12-2 advantage through the opening 2:30 to get ahead 12-2 with a slam by Gabe Smith and a free-throw in the mix.
The Huskies were 4-5 on their first five attempts, with three from Tomashek and another by Josh Terrian 18-6 by the media timeout with 15:51 to go and a rebounding margin of 5-1 in favor of the Huskies.
Michigan Tech got ahead by 20 points with 13:02 to go, with a deep 3-pointer by Ty Fernholz making it the seventh 3-pointer of the day for the Black & Gold to make it 28-8 before a slam dunk by Smith, forcing a timeout by the Fighting Knights (30-8).
The Huskies' hot shooting would not let up, and by the 8:56 mark, both Tomashek and Fernholz had recorded their sixth 3-point make in seven attempts, making it 48-16.
51-18 would be the score by the 7:11 media timeout, with Fernholz knocking down his seventh triple of the night to add to the lopsided affair. The Huskies' remarkable shooting subsided down the stretch of the first half as the Fighting Knights were able to muster more offense before heading into halftime trailing the Black & Gold 64-36 off a jumper by Tomashek.
The Huskies neared the program record for most points in a first half (69) with seven 3-pointers from Fernholz and six from Tomashek, as the two combined for 45 points. As a team, the Black & Gold shot 63.2 percent from the field and 15-22 (68.2 percent) from trey while holding the opposition to 3-11 from deep.
The Huskies used a 10-1 run to start the second half to make it 74-37 with just over three minutes played and held a more than convincing lead the remainder of the game.
Tomashek hit five 3-pointers in the second half and his 11th at the 7:52 mark made him the school record holder for single-game 3-pointers made as the Huskies went up 96-54.
The largest lead by the Huskies came with 6:43 to play off a tip-in by Dawson Nordgaard, making it 98-54.
FRIDAY GAME RECAP
MELBOURNE, Fla. -- The Michigan Tech men's basketball team earned its eighth-straight victory with a 64-52 decision over Florida Tech to begin the Florida Tech Christmas Classic at the Charles and Ruth Clemente Center on Friday afternoon.
Veteran guard Marcus Tomashek led a trio of Huskies in double-figure scoring with a game-high 22 points, including a perfect 7-7 from the free throw line and a season-high seven dimes. Ty Fernholz had 13 points off the bench, shooting 4-8 from the field and 3-7 from trey. Dawson Nordgaard was an efficient 5-6 from the field for 10 points to go with four boards.
Michigan Tech elevates to 10-1 overall and 2-0 in league play as Florida Tech drops to 5-6 and 2-2 in the loop.
"Winning on the road is hard, I'm happy with the win and how locked in we were coming out of halftime," said Tech head coach Josh Buettner. "We have a big time challenge tomorrow."
The two technological universities were nearly identical statistically through 20 minutes played as both teams hit nine shots, 19 rebounds and four turnovers. The Huskies held the Panthers to 30 percent shooting and 3-15 from deep, bettering the home team with five 3-pointers, to go with 4-6 from the charity stripe compared to 3-4 for Florida Tech.
Michigan Tech held a 7-3 rebounding advantage through the first four and a half minutes but trailed 4-2. 3-pointers by Fernholz, Gabe Smith and Matt Schmainda began to give the Huskies the first sizable advantage of the day to make it 13-8 with 11:24 to play.
The Black & Gold got up by six points twice, coming from a jumper by Tomashek (18-12) and then with 7:23 to go off a layup by Smith (20-14).
After holding the Panthers scoreless for more than two minutes, the home team outscored the Huskies 7-5 down the stretch concluding the scoring in the first half by trading 3-pointers, first by Grant Lovette then Schmainda to head into halftime leading 27-24.
Fernholz led all scorers with eight points, hitting 2-3 from 3-point territory and adding two free throws as Smith added seven points on 3-4 shooting.
The second half showcased sizable scoring runs and droughts for both teams as the Huskies opened with a 16-7 run to start the second half that extended to the first media timeout at the 14:45 mark, seeing the Black & Gold ahead by double-digits with six points from Nordgaard and two consecutive 3-pointers by Tomashek. Tomashek converted an and-one out of the media break to make it 44-31.
The Huskies' largest lead of the game came with 6:19 to play off a layup by Nordgaard (60-36) before the Panthers would orchestrate a scoring run while holding the Black & Gold scoreless.
Florida Tech put together an 18-2 scoring run in the final seven minutes of the game to cut the Huskies' lead down to eight points (60-52) with 47 to play, leading to a Michigan Tech timeout.
However, the Panthers' comeback attempt would get no closer, as the Huskies drew fouls down the stretch translating into two points by Tomashek before a fastbreak dunk by Smith sealed the deal 64-52.
Josh Terrian led the team with eight rebounds to go with five assists, as Nate Abel had seven rebounds and Schmainda added six, three on offense.
Ca'Darrius Sowell and Xavier Ford-Belton recorded a team-leading nine points as Sterling White III had a team-high five boards.
