MENOMINEE---Two members of the state champion Menominee High School football team have committed to play for the Northern Michigan University Wildcats. Maroons quarterback Tanner Theuerkauf was selected Mister UP Football in his senior season and he says he is ready to join his older brother Trevor to play for new NMU Coach Matt Janus.
“I miss playing with him (his brother) a lot, and I really like NMU, and it's gonna be a fun time,” Tanner Teuerkauf told RRN Sports. “I went up there yesterday, and I love talking to the coaches. I met with the head coach today, and I really like the guy. I really like all the coaches and I like what they're doing up there. I'm going to try to play wherever I can and I know that he (Trevor) is going to be pushing me to be the best I can, and I'm going to push him hard, too. We're going toHe have a lot of fun.”
Komp, who was an All-UP Dream Team selection, is also excited.
“He influenced me a lot, being my quarterback,” Komp said. “Having that chemistry, really going into college, that's what really made my decision. I love the new coaching staff, I feel like, I just 'get' them, and I like the new offense they're bringing. He (Janus) seems to spread the ball a lot, which I like.”
Theuerkauf's older brother, Trevor, won the NMU quarterback job midway through the past season, and helped the Wildcats to win three of their final five games.
Janus comes to NMU from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse, where he had a 45-14 record for the Division Three Eagles.
