SIDNEY, Mich.---The Bay College Norse women's basketball team shook off a slow start on Saturday and cruised to a 96-54 win over the Montcalm Community College Centurions in western lower Michigan. Lauren Zawada scored 29 points and McKenzie Hoffmeyer added 23 points as the Norse kept pace with Mid Michigan at the top of the MCCAA North Conference standings.

Bay (19-4 overall, 8-1 MCCAA) remained one game behind the first place Lakers, with five games left for both teams in the season.
The Norse beat the Centurions by 65 points earlier this season, but Montcalm came out Saturday and competed hard. The Centurions had a 16-10 lead midway through the first quarter as Kendall Stout knocked down and triple and scored two other baskets, and Emily Putnam added two baskets and a pair of free throws.
Bay, however, closed the quarter on a 13-4 run to take a 23-20 lead, with Zawada scoring ten points and Hoffmeyer adding eight. From there, the Norse gradually pulled away in the second quarter with a 31-point effort that made it 54-33 at halftime.
Besides Zawada and Hoffmeyer, the Norse also got four triples and 12 points from Jillian Fraser.
Montcalm (7-15 overall, 4-5 MCCAA) was led by Putnam with 15 points.
The Norse are back on the road Wednesday night with a game against the last place Alpena Community College Lumberjacks. Game time is 5:30 and it will be broadcast live on Maverick 106.3 FM and at the audio link at www.baynorse.com.
