ESCANABA---The Bay College Norse women's basketball team kept pace in the MCCAA North conference race on Saturday with a 90-56 win over the Muskegon Community College Jayhawks in Escanaba. The win keeps the 24th-ranked Norse one game behind the 15th-ranked Mid Michigan College Lakers, who also won on Saturday. The two teams will face each other in Mt. Pleasant on February 24th.

Saturday was Alumni Day at Bay College, and some of the former players, including all-time leading scorer Jordan Kraemer, attended the festivities. Also back for the day was former Norse women's basketball coach Rob Robinson.
They saw a game that started out slowly for the Norse, as Muskegon, fighting for playoff positioning, shot the ball well in the first quarter, taking a 20-13 lead. But the Norse got their wake-up call, turning a 30-28 deficit into 39-30 halftime lead, with Lauren Zawada scoring three baskets, McKenZie Hoffmeyer scoring in the paint, and Makenna Hendrickson knocking down a triple as a part of that run.
The Norse gradually pulled away in the second half, at one point scoring 22 straight points to improve their record to 21-4 on the season (10-1 MCCAA) with three games left in the regular season.
Zawada led the Norse with another double-double: 28 points and ten rebounds. She made 13 of her 26 shot attempts from the floor. Her Bark River-Harris teammate, Hoffmeyer, added 17 points and eight rebounds. Hendrickson had ten points and eight rebounds from the point guard position, and Jillian Fraser knocked down three triples off the bench. Nina Bower also contributed nine points off the bench.
Muskegon center Anna Lundquist battled foul trouble to lead her team with 23 points and ten rebounds. The Jayhawks fell to 9-12 overall, 5-6 in conference play.
The Norse will have their final regular home game of the season Wednesday night against Kirtland Community College, and the team's sophomores will be honored. Bay will then travel to Saginaw to face Delta College in what's likely to be an intense game on Saturday, before the war with Mid Michigan on February 24.
All of the Bay games are broadcast live on Maverick 106.3 FM.
