IRON MOUNTAIN---The Kingsford Junior Little League All-Stars (age 13-14) scored eight runs in the first inning and cruised to a 13-3 win over the Gladstone All-Stars in the district tournament opener Wednesday night in Iron Mountain. Connor Chrisman pitched all five innings, allowing six hits, three runs (all earned) and three walks. He struck out three batters as the game ended after five innings on the mercy rule.
The Florence, Wisconsin, boy helped his own cause with a pair of hits. In fact, all of the Kingsford boys hit the ball, especially in the first inning, when they sent 13 batters to the plate and scored eight times. Gladstone Manager Ryan Rosinski was trying to work his pitching staff by keeping them undere pitch thresholds, but starter Mason Holochwost did not retire a single batter before using up his 20 pitches. Jaxdon Quigley used up his 20 pitches as well, and only got one out. Elliott Bosk was able to pitch 1 2/3 innings on his 20 pitches, but the damage was done.
Gladstone had several chances to put runs on the board, but managed only single runs in the second, third, and fourth inning. Colton Hughes had an RBI single for Gladstone.
Camdyn Trepanier led the Kingsford hitting attack with three hits, and five guys had two RBI each.
Kingsford was supposed to play Iron Mountain in a Wednesday night game, but that was rained out and will be played Thursday afternoon. Whoever loses that one will play Gladstone later on Thursday.
