Gladstone Celebrates Its Softball, Baseball Success
GLADSTONE---The Gladstone community was in celebration mode on Sunday as the Braves softball and baseball teams returned home from East Lansing. The girls won an improbable state championship in softball Saturday, while the boys played in the Final Four for the first time, finishing third after a semifinal loss. Both teams drove to Rapid River, and then boarded decorated Gladstone School buses. The buses then went through downtown and lakeshore Gladstone, escorted by Gladstone Public Safety and Michigan State Police squad cars, and a GPS fire truck. Hundreds of people lined the streets, cheering on the kids as they celebrated. The boys and girls all had fun waving out the windows of the buses, and several girls climbed aboard the fire truck and waved to the spectators along the way. The Gladstone girls will have their season-ending awards banquet Tuesday night at the school commons at 6:00. The Gladstone boys will have their banquet Wednesday night at 7:00 at Don Olsen Field.
