Eichhorn's 68 Leads Carney-Nadeau To U.P. Title

GLADSTONE---Carney-Nadeau's Hunter Eichhorn scored the Irish Oaks Golf Course, shooting a 68 to lead the Wolves to the MHSAA Division Three Boys U.P. Championship on Thursday. Eichhorn, a sophomore, beat Jeffers's Jacob Zerst by six strokes.

There were boys from 23 schools at the D-3 U.P. Finals, although five of the teams didn't have enough players to qualify for team scores.

Carney-Nadeau won with 342 strokes. Munising and DeTour each had 344, with Munising winning the tiebreaker to take second place. Cedarville took fourth with 347 strokes, and Jeffers finished fifth in the team standings with a 364.

Individually, Eichhorn's 68 took medalist honors, with Zerbst shooting a 74 for second. Rudyard's Jacob Kaminski was third with a 76, Cedarville's Avry Freel shot a 77, and Carter Tallaire of St. Ignace was fifth with a 79.

Munising's Izaak Mahoski shot an 81 and teammate Tyler Tweedale fired an 82.

ESCANABA---The Bark River-Harris Broncos cruised to the MHSAA Division Three Girls U.P. Championship on Thursday at the Escanaba Country Club.

BR-H junior Hannah Starnes led the Broncos with a 92. Starnes lost only to St. Ignace senior Margo Brown, who dominated the field to with medalist honors with an 83. Brown was the only St. Ignace golfer to make the trip to Escanaba on Thursday.

Brown won the U.P. title for a third straight year. She shot a 43 on the front nine, and shot a 40 on the back nine. She has been recruited to play basketball at Ferris State.

Starnes ended up in a tie for second place with Madison Wilke of DeTour. Cedarville's Anne Eberts took fourth with a 97, and Analise Taylor of Forest Park was fifth (99).

Mid Peninsula was the host for the event. Hunter Branstrom shot a 104 for Mid Pen.

Bark River-Harris won the team trophy with 439 strokes. Forest Park finished second with 457, and Engadine took third with 464. Ontonagon finished fourth with a 473, and Cedarville took fifth with 477. There were 17 schools represented at the Finals.
