North Central, Bark River-Harris Split Baseball DH

HERMANSVILLE---Bobby Kleiman threw a five-hit shutout to lead the North Central Jets to a 4-0 win over the Bark River-Harris Broncos Tuesday in Hermansville. But the Broncos pounded out 15 hits in the nightcap to win, 7-3, splitting the rivalry twinbill.

In the opener, the Jets managed only three base hits off Bronco starter Drake Draze, but several BR-H miscues helped NCA get the victory.

Dawson Bilski had an RBI hit early in the game, and then in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Jets got two runs.

Kleiman was hit by a pitch and went to second when Seth Polfus's pop fly was not caught by two BR-H fielders. As Kleiman stole third, the throw was off-line and into left field, allowing Kleiman to score. Polfus then scored on a Hunter Ridley hit to make it 4-0.

Earlier, the Broncos trailed just 2-0 in the top of the fifth inning and had a chance to get on the board as Logan Heim and Sam Hall both got base hits. But with two out, Kleiman struck out Kadin Mustafa to end the threat. Kleiman had eight strikeouts in the game.

"I was throwing fastball, curveball, and knuckleball," Kleiman said. "Mostly the fastball and curveball, and working a little bit of knuckle in there. It's new to me, but I'm trying to get that in there. It seemed to work out pretty well."

Bark River-Harris Manager Mark Heim says his team did OK in its first game of 2016.

"We struggled a little bit at the plate," Heim said about the first game. "Left a few guys on base. But every inning, we got better. That's what it will take. It will take a couple more games until we're ready to go."

In the second game, the Broncos turned the tables on the Jets, winning, 7-3. Sam Hall pitched a complete game and he had plenty of support behind him, with 15 base hits.

The Jets (3-1) are off until Friday, when they host the Norway Knights for a doubleheader. Game time is 3:30 CT. The Broncos (1-1) are also off until Friday, when they host the Stephenson Eagles. Game time is 4:00 ET.

In other local baseball action Tuesday night, Stephenson lost in Coleman, Wis., 8-5.
