Escanaba's Larson Voted UP Youth Wrestler Of Year

MANISTIQUE---Escanaba eighth grader Hunter Larson was named U.P. 8th Grade Wrestler of the Year. Wrestlers from all over the U.P. are nominated for this award by their coaches. The criteria that the coaches look at amongst the nominees include grade point average, personal accomplishments, and sportsmanship.

At the Manistique wrestling tournament last Saturday, all of the coaches from each club in the U.P. voted for the Wrestler of the Year, and Larson was announced the winner.

In the 130-pound weight class, Larson finished in third place at the MYWAY State Championships last month in Battle Creek. He also finished third in the Division Five (13-14 year-old) division at the NUWAY National Championships, also in Battle Creek.

Larson was not at the Manistique tournament last Saturday because he competed in the "Go Big or Go Home" Greco Wrestling Tournament at Concordia University in Wisconsin.  He finished in first place in the "Schoolboy" division in the 128-to-135 pound weight class.
