Esky Shortstop LaMarch Picked For All-State Team
 ESCANABA---Escanaba High School shortstop Hunter LaMarch has been picked to the Division Two All-State Second Team by the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association. LaMarch becomes just the sixth Eskymo to be selected to an All-State Team in the 15-year history of the Eskymo baseball program...and the first since 2009.  LaMarch batted .435 for the Eskymos this season, with two home runs and 30 runs batted in. He had 40 total base hits, with ten of them being doubles. He was also strong defensively at shortstop, routinely making plays to first base from deep in the hole. "I've always been, I thought, decent in the field, but this year, I got more range," LaMarch said. "I had a little more arm strength to make some of the plays. But I think my hitting is what really came on." LaMarch joins some big names in Eskymo baseball history on the All-State list. The other Eskymos to make All-State Teams were Kurt Lauscher (2002), Tom Seehafer (2003), Steve Berg (2004), Brad Gauthier (2006), and Doug Beattie (2008, 2009). LaMarch plans to attend Bay deNoc Community College in the fall.  |
