Carney's Eichhorn Leads Golden Eagles Golf Team

This story is from Marquette University Athletics

LAKE CHARLES, La. —
Final round 71s from Hunter Eichhorn (T-4, 5-under-par) and Matt Murlick (6th, 4-under-par) secured their individual top-10 finishes, while Marquette posted an even par 288 as a team to finish in second place at the Lake Charles Invitational, hosted by McNeese State at The Country Club at The Golden Nugget.

The Golden Eagles (290-284-288–862) finished at 2-under-par in the 54-hole event, 12 strokes behind winner Louisiana (14-under-par, 850).

It was the sixth top-five finish in seven stroke play events for Marquette this season and its fourth team sub-par performance.  MU entered the week ranked in the top 40 in both the Golfstat (39th) and Golfweek/Sagarin (32nd) ratings.

Eichhorn (71-69-71—211) and Murlick (75-66-71—212) both fired their second straight sub-par rounds to pace the Golden Eagles.  Eichhorn, who entered the week ranked 86th in the nation, earned his third top-10 finish in his first seven collegiate starts.  Murlick’s 4-under-par performance was the best of his career in a Par 72 event.  Both made 14 birdies in 54 holes, third-best in the 61-player field.

Marquette’s 56 birdies and 24-under-par scoring total on Par 5 holes led the field on the Par 72, 6,869-yard course.

The Golden Eagles return to play this weekend by traveling to one of the college golf’s top events, the 3M Augusta Invitational, hosted by Augusta on Saturday, March 31 and Sunday, April 1.
