STAYING HOME: Robinette Playing Hoops At Bay
ESCANABA---Escanaba High School senior Ryan Robinette signed his National Letter of Intent Thursday to attend Bay College and play for the men's basketball team next season. Robinette is the fifth U.P. recruit to officially sign for next season. "Ryan is one of those kids that we targeted from the very beginning," Norse Coach Matt Johnson said. "I didn't know if he was still going to be around at our level. I think there's some people (bigger schools) who missed the boat on Ryan. I think he's as talented of a kid as there is across the U.P. He's a big, long, athletic guard, that can play multiple positions. He does a lot of things very well." "It's a good fit for me," Robinette said. "I know Coach Johnson really well. He coached me in years previous to this, and I'm saying that we can make a lot of noise in the Midwest. We're going to e a really good team and it's a really good place for me to prosper as a basketball player." "To say that we are excited to have him as part of our program is an understatement," Johnson said of Robinette, who's older brother just finished a career at Finlandia. "He has the opportunity to do some very special things." Robinette joins Ryan Arndt (Bark River-Harris), Logan Hardwick (Rapid River), Dondre Yohe (Ishpeming), and Cade Ontreras (Munising) as members of the new recruiting class. The Norse finished 22-8 in their first season of basketball in 2016-17.
