Bay College Announces Eight Men's Hoop Recruits

The Bay College Norse Men's Basketball Team has added eight signed players to the roster for the 2018-19 campaign.  The team will look to improve on a 22-7 record under second year Head Coach Matt Johnson.

The list of players that have signed their National Letter of Intent to play basketball at Bay College is as follows:

Christian Alexander

Dorset, United Kingdom

Height: 6'8"

Weight: 230 lbs.

Position: Forward

High School Senior Season Stats: 18 PPG, 11 RB/G, 2 B/G

Coach Johnson says… "Christian is a big, strong, athletic post.  He has the ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor.  He is a gym rat that will continue to get better and better as time goes on.  He will add much needed depth to our post rotation."

Ryan Arnt

Bark River-Harris High School

Height: 6'0"

Position: Guard

High School Senior Season Stats: 18 PPG, 6 REB/G, 2 A/G

Athletic Awards: 1,000 Points scored, First Team Skyline Conference, First Team Class D All-UP

Coach Johnson says… "Ryan is a great kid, and was a very successful three sport athlete at Bark River-Harris.  I have had the opportunity to watch Ryan a lot over the past few years and I look forward to working with him the next two.  As good of a high school player as he was, I think Ryan's best basketball is ahead of him.  He is a big strong guard that will add a different element to our perimeter play."

Cade Contrares

Munising High School

High School Senior Season Stats: 19 PPG, 4 A/G, 3 S/G

Athletic Awards: First Team Skyline Conference, First Team Class D All-UP, BCAM First Team Class D All-State

Coach Johnson says… "Cade is gym rat, a coach's dream.  He has spent a lot of time working on his game and it has shown.  He is coming off of a great season at Munising and I look for him to continue to have success at Bay.  He will be one of the best shooters we have in the program.  I look for Cade to help stretch the defense, so our big guys can get quality post touches."

Logan Hardwick

Rapid River School

Height: 6'5"

Position: Forward

High School Senior Season Stats: 14.5 PPG, 10 RB/G, 1.5 B/G

Academic Awards: National Honor Society, High Honor Roll, 3.5 GPA

Athletic Awards: First Team All-Conference, Second Team All-UP, Honorable Mention Skyline Conference, Team MVP 2016 & 2017

Coach Johnson says… "Logan has been a standout three sport athlete at Rapid River the past 4 years, as well as being a very strong student. I love Logan's demeanor, he is always composed, but yet one of the most competitive kids you will find.  Logan's versatility will allow him to be a stretch forward for us.  He will be able to guard bigs at our level, yet step out to the perimeter on the offensive end."

Johnathan Helou

Riverside Secondary Academy

Windsor, ON

Height: 6'6"

Weight: 210 lbs.

Position: Forward

High School Senior Season Stats: 20 PPG, 5 RB/G, 3 A/G, 2 S/G

Coach Johnson says… "Johnathan is a very gifted athlete.  He has the ability to be a very good player at our level, his combination of size and perimeter skill will make him a difficult matchup for many teams.  When I started recruiting for this class it was a priority to get longer and more athletic on the wing and Johnathan definitely helps fill that need."

DeAndre Magsby

Milwaukee Vincent High School

Height: 6'5"

Position: Forward

High School Senior Season Stats: 13.4 PPG, 9.4 REB/G, 59.8 FG%

Athletic Awards: Second Team All-Conference

Coach Johnson says… "DeAndre comes to us from one of the best high school programs in Wisconsin, he has played with and against some of the best players around and he has proven to more than hold his own.  He adds an element to our team that we needed.  He is long and athletic, he can score multiple ways and defend multiple positions.  I'm very excited to have DeAndre in our program."

Ryan Robinette

Escanaba High School

Height: 6'3"

Position: Guard

High School Senior Season Stats: 20 PPG, 6 A/G, 3 S/G

Athletic Awards: First Team Great Northern Conference, First Team Class ABC All-UP, Honorable Mention All-State

Coach Johnson says… "Ryan has been one of the premier high school players in the UP for the past 3 years.  He is long, athletic, and very skilled with the basketball.  He handles the ball very well, sees the floor incredibly well, and can score multiple different ways.  There are some things that Ryan needs to work on but he has a very high ceiling and the chance to have a great career at Bay."

Dondre Yohre

Ishpeming High School

Height: 6'3"

Position: Forward

High School Senior Season Stats: 10 PPG, 5 RB/G, 4 A/G, 1 S/G

Academic Awards: Outstanding Community Service Award, Elementary School Math Tutor, Student Council President

Athletic Awards: All-Conference Defensive Team, All-MPC Second Team, All-UP Honorable Mention

Coach Johnson says… "I love the way the Dondre plays the game.  He is unselfish, hardworking, and does all the little things.  He has great body control, can finish through contact, and is a great on-the ball-defender.  He is an old-school, blue collar, bring your lunch pail to work kind of player.  I can't say enough about the respect I have for Dondre's game.  I look forward to working with him, he is going to make us a much tougher group."

"Our group of in-coming players will be a great addition to our program," said Coach Johnson.  "We are fortunate to return seven of our top players from last year's squad.  Even so, we felt there were a few things that we needed to address in this year's class: size, length, athleticism, perimeter shooting, and obviously overall depth.  I think we filled all of those holes with this group.  I cannot wait to get into the gym with this group of young men. I think we have the opportunity to be pretty solid, now it's time to go to work."

The eight in-coming players will be joining seven returning players from last year's team that compiled a record of 22-7.  This will be Bay's second season of play since reinstating the Athletic Department.  The 2018-19 men's basketball team will be eligible for NJCAA post season play.
