NMU-OTS Weightlifter Lewis Heading To Poland

MARQUETTE---Northern Michigan University Olympic Training Site weightlifter Nate Lewis of Arlington, Wash., will be traveling to Biala Podlaska, Poland Sept. 20-23 to compete in the World University Championships.

USA Weightlifting named Lewis, an NMU senior, to the team in April. While this will be his first World University Championship, Lewis has found success at the National University Championships.

In 2015, Lewis was a member of the NMU team that won the Championships. He finished third in the 105 kg weight-class and earned a gold-medal in the snatch. After not attending in 2016, he was a member of the NMU-OTS squad that finished in second place in 2017 and 2018. In 2017, he won a silver in the snatch and earned bronze medals in the clean and jerk and for overall total.

This April he lifted a combined total of 325 kg, ending the event in fourth place.

“I am excited to be a member of the World University Team,” said Lewis. “This will be my first international competition and I have put in a lot of hard work. I feel more prepared than ever before.”

Coach Adam Latella echoed Lewis’ statement. "I am really excited for Nate, and the opportunity he has earned,” said Latella. “After Nate's strong training cycle, he is both physically and mentally prepared to hit some big lifts on the world stage. He will represent NMU and USA Weightlifting with honor and pride."
