Escanaba Settles For Baseball Split In Kingsford

KINGSFORD---The Escanaba High School baseball team gave up five unearned runs in the first inning and lost the opener of a doubleheader to the Kingsford Flivvers, 5-1, Tuesday at Lodal Park. The Eskymos regrouped to pound the Flivvers in the nightcap, 13-0.

Kingsford started the opener with three straight hits off Eskymo starter Austin Willette, with singles by Hunter Lindeman, Jesse Julian, and Luke Terrian. Three errors on the Eskymo infield, along with a Carter Kreski sacrafuce fly, put Kingsford on top.

Escanaba scored its only run in the top of the sixth inning when Grant LaMarche singled gome Bryant Maki. Andrew Paupore pitched all six innings for Kingsford, allowing just three base hits. LaMarche had two of those base hits.

The other game was a much different story as the Eskymos scored four runs in the first inning and kept rolling, winning the game on the four-inning mercy rule.

This time it was the Flivvers who fell apart defensively, making six errors. The Eskymos did not commit an error, and pounded out 15 hits at the plate.

Jake LaFave had an RBI single and Jared Hanson singled in two runs during that first inning. The hits kept coming in the second inning as Maki and Willette had RBI singles and Craig Kamin doubled home a run. It was 7-0 after two innings.

Collin Arnt had an RBI single in the third inning and Tyler Lawson plated another run with a sacrafice fly. Lawson had another sacrafice fly in the fourth inning and several infield hits added up to two more runs for the Eskymos.

Arnt ended up 3-for-3 with three runs scored. Kamin and Josh Bruntjens both had a pair of hits. Drew Rodman pitched all four innings, allowing two hits and two walks.

Escanaba is now 12-11 on the season. The Eskymos travel to Menominee for a single game Thursday night with the first pitch set for 6:00 ET.
