Upper Peninsula Youth Football Season Under Way

ESCANABA----The Upper Peninsula Youth Football League is under way in Delta County this fall. It is for young elementary-school kids, the old "Pop Warner" leagues.

The first games were played last Saturday (Sept. 8), and the kids play a six-game schedule at the Holy Name Field in Escanaba.

Games usually start at 9 in the morning on Saturdays.

The league is in its 13th year of exisistance, and it has four divisions, from ages five to 12 years old.

The divisions are split up by age.

The kids play in full pads, and this is a "tackle" program (not a "flag" program).

There is no charge to attend any of the games.

The league also has a cheerleading program for girls aged 5-to-12.

In addition to the Saturday morning games, the kids will be participating at halftime of the Escanaba-Gladstone junior varisty football game on October.
