LOPSIDED OPENER: Bay Ladies Dominate, 113-20

ESCANABA---The Bay College Norse women's basketball team opened the home season on Sunday with a 113-20 win over the Lake Superior State University JV team. The Norse led from start to finish, with a defense that forced 47 turnovers and got 34 steals.

The Lakers shnot just 25 percent from the floor, and the Norse had a 37-17 advantage in rebounds. Bay College led, 25-5, after the first quarter, 60-13 at halftime, and then allowed just one point in the third quarter to build a 87-14 lead.

A Cierra Molina basket midway through the fourth quarter allowed the Bay ladies to cross the 100-point mark for the first time in the three-year history of the program.

Sophomore Mid Peninsula High School graduate Haley Trudell had a career-high 20 points, including 15 in the first half as she drained four three-point baskets.

Gladstone graduate Kaitlyn Hardwick had 16 points by making eight of her nine shots from the floor.

Big Bay deNoc grad Brooke Dalgord made seven of her 12 shots for 14 points. Gladstone graduate Taylor Hunter was the fourth Bay player to score in double figures with 11 points. Molina led the defense with six steals, and she had five assists on offense. Trish McGuire of Gwinn made all four of her shots from the floor and scored nine points.

Marissa Ackerman of Munising scored three points but had six steals and three assists.

The Norse made 49 of 81 shots (60.5 percent), many of them on layups after steals on the defensive end. Zoey Campbell led the LSSU Lakers with eight points.

Bay College (3-1) will host UW-Marinette Monday night at 6:00 ET. The game will be broadcast on WGMV-FM (Maverick 106.3) and www.radioresultsnetwork.com.
