Eskymos Come Up Short In Copper Country, 4-1
HOUGHTON---Senior goaltender Trevor Denome stopped 48 of 52 shots but it wasn't enough as the Escanaba Eskymos lost to the Houghton Gremlins, 4-1, Friday night at Dee Stadium. Denome made 22 of his saves in the third period alone, but was victim to some bad luck on two of the four goals that the Gremlins put past him. The first, by Camden Markham, came early in the first period after the Eskymos had killed off a five-on-three power play against. The shot came from behind the net and appeared to bank into the net off of Denome's pads. The Eskymos tied things up with a power play of their own as Kyle Krutina scored midway through the first period. Ethan Silverstone drew the lone assist. Houghton (12-7-0) regained the lead late in the first period on a Brandon Trudeau goal. The only goal of the second period was a strange one as the Gremlins dumped the puck into the Eskymo zone from the Houghton blue line. It bounced off two bodies and went past Denome for a 3-1 lead. The goal was credited to Ty Halonen. Markham scored his second goal in the third period to make it a 4-1 final. Escanaba fell to 8-8-0 on the season and will stay in the Copper Country to face the Calumet Copper Kings. Game time is 1:00 and it will be broadcas live on WCHT Radio (AM-600, FM-93.5) and on-line at www.rrnsports.com. |
