Bark River Bucs Open U.P. Finals With Easy Victory

ESCANABA---The Bark River Bucs American Legion Baseball team opened the Upper Peninsula Zone Five tournament with a 17-3 win over the Negaunee Diamonds Thursday night in Escanaba. The Bucs scored ten runs in the first inning and cruised to the win on the five-inning mercy rule. 

 

Ian Gorzinski had three hits and scored three runs to lead the Bucs. Nick Javurek, Joe Javurek, Johnnie Robinette, and Wyatt Riley also had two hits apiece.

 

The Bucs took advantage of nine Negaunee errors. Max Hall started on the mound and allowed a run on two hits in 1 1/3 innings. Riley, Travis Mack and Nick Javurek followed Hall to the mound as the Bucs saved pitching for the future games.

 

Negaunee also used four pitchers. Starter Hunter Haanpa took the loss. Keith Judici and Luke Kostreva both had RBI hits for the Diamonds. AJ Bottari also had a base hit for Negaunee.

Bark River faces Escanaba Friday morning at 11:00 and takes on Marquette at 8:00, also in Escanaba. Both games will be broadcast live on FM-93.5 and AM-600, as well as on-line at www.rrnsports.com.
