Northern Michigan University National Training Site Greco-Roman wrestlers David Stepanian and Benji Peak placed second at the Senior World Team Trials this weekend in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Wrestling at 63 KG, Stepanian earned his spot in the finals by defeating Dylan Gregerson of Utah Valley 4-4 on criteria in the semi-final match. Stepanian faced 2017 NMU graduate Sam Jones of the New York Athletic Club in the best-of-three finals. Stepanian would ultimately fall to Jones, losing the first two matches 0-9 and 6-10.
Peak advanced to the 72 KG finals by defeating Jamal Johnson of the U.S. Marines 8-0 in the semi-finals. Peak faced Pat Smith of the Minnesota Storm in his best-of-three finals. Peak fell in the first match 3-3 on criteria and 4-6 in the second match.
The National Training Site also had two fourth-place finishes with Jacob Cochran wrestling at 55 KG and George Sikes competing at 87 KG.
