Negaunee 12U Hockey Team Cruises To State Championship

March 15, 2026

The Negaunee Iron Range 12U boys Tier II AA hockey team won a state championship on Sunday, wrapping up a perfect weekend of hockey. The boys beat Orchard Lake, 4-1, in the semifinals, and then took down the Detroit Bulldogs, 7-4, in the championship game. Negaunee outshot Detroit, 28-16, in the championship victory. The games were played at the Centre Ice Arena in Traverse City. Negaunee also won all of its pool play contests.

Tahquamenon Youth Hockey Tier III 12U Team Wins State Championship

March 15, 2026

Tahquamenon Area Youth Hockey Association 12U boys Tier Three hockey team won a state championship last night at the Farmington Arena near Detroit. The Bandits won all three of their games in pool play, and then beat the West Shore Wolves, 9-3, in Sunday's semifinals. The championship game saw the Newberry-Munising combined team beat Detroit Honeybaked, 7-1, outshooting the downstate team, 35-7, along the way. Congratulations to Coach Nutkins and the boys.

Tomashek Clutch Four-Point Play Sends Michigan Tech To Sweet 16

Escanaba Eighth Graders Bring Home Basketball State Championship

March 09, 2026

The Escanaba Eskymos eighth grade basketball team has won a state championship. The boys went undefeated and won the Michigan Middle School Silver bracket state title over the weekend in dowinstate Brighton. There were 12 teams in the bracket. In pool play, Escanaba beat Charlotte, 44-26, and topped Owosso 48-32, In the semifinals, Esky beat Niles, 47-25, and in the championship game, Escanaba pulled out a 45-42 win over SISU out of Vassar, Michigan. Tournaments were held in 3rd through 8th grades, and Escanaba was the only Upper Peninsula team in any bracket to bring home the championshiip.

Bay Women End Season With Regional Final Loss To Undefeated Schoolcraft

The Bay College Norse women's basketball team had its most successful season in program history come to an end on Sunday with a loss in the NJCAA Region 12 championship game at the Ballenger Fieldhouse in Flint. The Norse lost to the nation's second-ranked team, the undefeated Schoolcraft College Ocelots, 82-60. NMU Lacrosse Player Lakosky Gets All-GLIAC Honors

NMU junior attacker Josie Lakosky has been selected as GLIAC Attacker of the Week, announced by the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference. Lakosky paced the Wildcats on offense in the victory over Saginaw Valley State over the weekend, tallying an impressive eight goals with three assists for 11 points. After the weekend, Lakosky paces the nation in goals per game, averaging just north of five at 5.22, as well as total points (65) and points per game (7.22). Lakosky's total goals (47) are second only to Madison Primeau of Lees-McRae (48).

NMU Diver Kalina Ceglinski Named NCAA All-American

3/15/26

Junior diver earned Kalina Ceglinski second-team All-America honors on the final day of the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. She qualified for the consolation finals with a score of 396.25 in the prelim qualifier, finishing 15th in the morning session. She then turned around and finished third in the 'B' final with a score of 412.85. Ceglinski finished 9th in the 3-meter board and 11th in the 1-meter board, earning second-team All-America honors in both events.

Two NMU Alpine Skiers Earn All-America Honors

Noah Bindas and Reed Heathman of the NMU alpine ski team earned second-team All-America honors in the slalom on the final day of individual competition at USCSA Nationals. Bindas, a freshman, finished eighth overall at 1:33.19 thanks to a scorching second-run time of 45.46, the seventh-fastest run two time. Heathman, a senior in his final nationals, earned the first All-America honor in his collegiate career, finishing 14th at 1:34.32.
