Lea Bjorn had 11 kills and 13 digs to lead Calumet. Amber Johnson added ten digs for the Copper Kings, who lost to Bronson for the second straight year in the Final Four.

Dennis Lueneberg, the Escanaba High School girl’s tennis coach, has resigned. Athletic Direcyor Nick Nolde made the announcement on Tuesday. "Denny’s knowledge, passion, and caring attitude will be sorely missed," Nolde said. "He was the staple in “Escanaba Tennis!” I can’t thank him enough for his work, dedication, and mentorship of our female athletes." Nolde says that the position will be posted soon.

The Calumet High School volleyball team won its sixth straight volleyball regional championship Thursday, beating West Iron County, 3-0, in L'Anse. The scores were 25-11, 25-8, 25-22. The Copper Kings advance to the Class C state quarterfinals next Tuesday in Munising. Thursday's Class D matches between Munising and Carney-Nadeau; and between Rudyard and Pellston, were postponed until Friday night because of weather.

The scores were 25-15, 23-25, 25-17, and 25-22. Sara Simula led the Wolves with 21 kills and 23 digs. Breanne Bedgood added 33 digs. The Wolves face Forest Park in next week's regionals.

Craig Kamin threw two touchdown passes, while Scout Wunder and Cody Vandermissen had two touchdown runs each. Wunder also caught a TD pass.
