Gladstone High School graduate MacKenzie Shepeck worked five perfect innings to preserve Western Michigan University's 4-2 win over Northern Illinois on Sunday.
Shepeck entered the circle to start the top of the third inning , trailing 2-1. She went to work, striking out three batters, forcing four ground outs, two pop outs and six fly outs during her five perfect innings. The Northern Michigan University Intercollegiate Athletics Department announced the recipients of the Athlete of the Year and the Gildo Canale Senior Awards at the Hall of Fame and Student-Athlete Awards Banquet on Saturday.
