The Marquette Sentinels Under-16 girls hockey team and the Keweenaw Storm Under-19 girls were both heartbroken on Sunday as they played for national titles at the USA Hockey Tier II National Championships in Amherst, N.Y.

The U.P. Sportsplex has celebrated its grand opening. It is an indoor athletic facility featuring youth and adult leagues and training programs for golf, tennis, baseball, softball, lacrosse and soccer. They will have open roller skating available on Friday nights and party rentals. U.P. Sportsplex is located at 1110 Wright Street in Marquette.
Our local high school football teams begin practice next Monday, but the younger guys are already practicing ahead of the fall season. The kids aged 5-to-12 are practicing without pads every afternoon at the Holy Name Catholic School's football field, which is maintained by the Upper Peninsula Youth Football League.
