MARINETTE, Wis.---
The Gladstone Indians American Legion baseball team lost its opener of the Marinette Firecracker Tournament on Friday, 6-2, to Green Bay Southwest. The game was played in a steady moderate rain which caused for slick conditions.

Gladstone had a hard time hitting Green Bay pitcher Zach Lemieux. The Indians managed only three base hits. Two of them came in the second inning when Aedan Creten and Cooper Curtis both got singles. But Johnny Soderman was caught looking on strikes to end the threat.

The only other hit came off the bat of Tyler Darmogray in the top of the seventh inning, with the Indians down to its final out. The two Gladstone runs came home on errors, in the third and fifth innings. And the Indians did not take advantage of four walks and a hit batter.

Green Bay (5-4 overall) got a two-run double from Donatello Bandalamento in the third inning to break a 1-1 tie. Zach Lemieux followed with a fly to shallow left field and was robbed by a Darmogray diving catch from shortstop. A run scored, though, making it 4-1.

Isaac Ketchum threw the first two-plus innings for Gladstone, allowing three runs (one earned) on one hit and two walks. He also hit a batter. Isaiah Brow threw the next 2 2/3 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four base hits. Austin Pepin finishe up on the mound, allowing one run on two hits in 1 1/3 innings for the Indians.

Lemieux came within one out of a complete game for Southwest, allowing two runs (none earned) on two hits and five walks in 6 2/3 innings of work.

Gladstone fell to 5-2 on the season. The Indians will continue tournament play on Saturday against the Sault Ste. Marie (Canada) Black Sox. Game time is 11:00 ET/10:00. It will be broadcast live on FM-93.5, AM-600, and on-line at www.rrnsports.com.
